Raising four children over numerous military postings, we gained a unique appreciation for quality childcare's importance to a busy family. With two children now young adults and two in high school, we have also gained considerable experience (making plenty of mistakes) trying to raise balanced, self-sufficient kids in the pressure cooker environment children face here in Northern Virginia. Our family has particular interest in girls and STEM education. Mom formerly practiced as a Board-certified Pediatrician. And our oldest child (and only girl) is a Ph.D candidate in Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California at Berkeley. We have learned much about child development; college testing and admissions; and how to (try to) balance family and career, and hope that our knowledge and experience can be of service to build your stronger family.
I started with College Nannies and Sitters as a nanny, and now I am the General Manager working alongside our Franchise Owner, Jim Doody. I am the youngest sibling of 3 and have 2 nephews and 1 niece AND I am a soon-to-be mother of a baby girl! I also teach Sabbath School at my church, Vienna Seventh Day Adventist Church! I teach newborns-3 year old's and I absolutely love it! I have always been a very active and outgoing person. I love to explore and learn new things. I try to challenge myself each day to grow - mentally, physically, and spiritually. Growing up with 2 brothers, I fell in love with sports because I wanted to do everything they did; so that meant getting down and dirty. A few scrapes on my knees to show I was a tough girl! Overall, I have been around children my whole life and enjoy building stronger families at College Nannies!
Before joining CNS, I was an elementary school teacher for 10 years in New York City. Over the years, I taught kindergarten through 2nd grade in both general education and special education classrooms. I moved to Long Island, NY in 2019 to be closer to my stepdaughter. I have been with College Nannies + Sitters for over 3 years now. I started as the Tutoring Center Manager and then transitioned into recruiting. My favorite part of my job is connecting with and learning from our inspiring team of passionate caregivers!
As a military spouse for over 20 years, I understand the need families have for dependable childcare. I did not always have a support system of friends and family to help with the kids or just give me a minute to breathe. Dependable, trustworthy childcare was essential; especially, when I started Culinary School. My kids then were 2 & 4. Now 16 & 18, they have adjusted to this lifestyle and are amazing young people (if I do say so myself ;). My oldest even joined our College Nanny family and became a Role Model before starting at Penn State. My son is looking to follow in his father's footsteps and will be applying to the United States Naval Academy next year. I am currently serving College Nannies and Sitters as their Social Media and Marketing Manager for the Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, and South Shore Long Island areas.
